WHANGAREI SENIOR B ALL OUT FOR 34

Electing to bat on a hard field and in brilliant sunshine, the Whangarei Senior B cricket representatives made a very bad start in the match against an Auckland suburban eleven, which commenced this morning.

Although it was agreed that 13 mei should bat for each side,, Whangarei’s 1? were dismissed before lunch for the meagre total of 34, of which A. Kelly made 12 and T. McKoy 8. Bowling for Auckland, Hetherington took six wickets for 20 runs; Strong, three for 8; Sykes, two for 0; and Bell, one for 2.

M. Turbett and Beattie, Auckland’s opening batsmen, were unbeaten at the luncheon adjournment, with the score at 22.

The teams are:—Auckland Suburbs: M. Turbutt, Beattie, Wyberg, Bell, Sykes, Strong, Hetherington, Stewart, Sell, Brown, McCabe, Seaton and W. Turbutt.

Whangarei: A. Kelly, Webb, Jenyhs, H. Madden, L. Pringle, T. McKoy, H. Fyfe, L. Madden, F. Madden, J. Mason, Hilton, Nisbet, James. Auckland resumed after the adjournment under excellent batting conditions, and at 3 p.m. had made 154 for the loss of eight wickets (Wyberg 76, M. Turbutt 26, Beattie 22, McCable not out 6, and Brown not out 1).
