DANGER OF COMMUNISM TO LABOUR
[Special To “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day. “The danger of a Communist movement was well put by the Hon. R. Semple during his visit to Australia,” said Sir Arthur Rickard, president of the Millions Club, who arrived by the Niagara from Sydney today, on a brief visit to New Zealand. He expressed the view that difficulty encountered by the Labour movement in dealing with Communist forces was very similar on both sides of the Tasman and that Communism was at the root of much of the. industrial trouble that had occurred.
Progress of the Now Zealand ex-
perimonts with the 40-hcur week and
other. ways was being watched very closely by Australia. There were, however, strong doubts among Australian leaders of industry as to the
feasibility of a shorter week, particu-
larly in view 'of the intense competition for trade by larger and more highly developed manufacturing countries on the other side of the world. - “The' reaction in New Zealand will **; an important effect in determinv; j n g the future trend of legislation in the Commonwealth,” he added.
