MAORI ADMITS ATTACK ON GIRL
!Special To “Northern Advocate:'] DARGAVILLE. This Day. Charged with having assaulted a 15-ycar-old girl at Turiwiri on the night of Saturday. December 4. Moses Tito, a Maori labourer, aged 20 years, appeared before Messrs. A. C. Paul and C. N. Taylor. J.sF.. in the Magistrate's Court yesterday morning. i Accused, pleaded guilty and was ccmmitteed to the Auckland Supremo , Court for sentence, i The girl was badly bruised and ! marked about the face, and suffered severely from shock, said Dr. Charles Mar-wood Mules, when giving evidence. In ihe witness box. the- girl said that while she was changing her shoes just inside the gateway of her home, a Maori approached and attempted to force his attentions on her. He caught her arms and she screamed, but could : not escape, although she struck her i assailant repeatedly with a shoo. The Maori punched her on the face several times and knocked her down. During the struggle she scratched her assailant’s face and bit his finger, and he attempted to gag her, and then dragged her across to the opposite side of the road. Witness stated that she then fainted, but. on recovering, she ran to her home, where she collapsed when telling her parents the story.
