Regeneration Of Trees Remarkable In U.S.

Mr C. R. Lovatl entertained a fair audience at the Nok Nok Inn on Thursday night when he lectured on hit trip through the Redwood fores*? of California and the Douglas fir forests cf British Columbia. He illustrated his talk with moving pictures he had taken in the course of his travels. A sawmiller, Mr Lovatt was particularly observant of all things affecting the timber industry. He found this to be most highly organised in America.' The speaker commented particularly on regeneration of the forests he viewed. This was most remarkable, he said.

The lecture was held under the auspices of the North Auckland Forest Society. Mr F. McDonald occupied the chair and briefly outlined to the audience „tho work of the society. Among its more immediate aims was to assist the Agricultural Instructor to Schools, Mr ,1. IT. Dennehy, in a scheme whereby children would plant a quarter cf a million trees throughout Northland to mark New' Zealand’s Centennial. He thanked Mr Lovatt for an interesting and instructive address, tend hoped that similar functions might be arranged in the future.
