WORST-EVER STORMS HIT PACIFIC COAST

SAN FRANCISCO, December 11
Cities are isolated, shipping is endangered, wash-outs have occurred on bridges and railroads, numerous houses have been destroyed and communications have been severed in many places as a- result of gales and torrential rains on the Pacific Coast. The situation is worst at Ukaih and Downieville, California, where hundreds fled to higher ground. All roads are inundated. The American, Feather. Yuba and Upper Sacramento Rivers are in a state of flood. The damage so far is estimated at 500,000 dollars. Meanwhile, 110 deaths are re- i ported as a result of a cold wave all over the country. The Weather Bureau described the storm ' sweeping the entire Pacific Coast from the Mexican border to the Aleutian Islands, as the worst ever recorded. The greatest damage danger spot u at Alturas, California. Water is roar 1 ing through the business streets, A | large section of Gilroy, California, is inundated.
