Cricket Matches Off. Owing to the rain, it was decided at 12.30 p.m. today to abandon all cricket matches scheduled to take place today in the Whangarei Cricket Association's competitions. New School for Ngunguru. The Minister of Education has advised Mr J. G. Barclay. M.P., that Cabinet has approved of a grant for the replacement of the school building at Ngunguru. The existing school is a very ancient building.
Debt Wiped Out. An appeal to the congregation to wipe out a debt of £lll. which was a legacy from the depression years, met with whole-hearted response, the Rev. W. Elliott stating on Sunday that £lll 14/ had been received.

Second-Grade Butter Price Increase.
A Press Association message from Wellington, which was received by the “Advocate” yesterday, stated that an Order-in-Council had been issued amending the wholesale price of Second-grade pat butter, which would be advanced to 14Id as from December 30. However, advice has been received by the Hikurangi Coop. Dairy Company, Ltd., from the Internal Marketing Department, that the price is to increase 'after December 12.
Rain Spoils Hora Hora School Picnic. Rain marred the Hora Hora School annual picnic, which was conducted at Portland today. A trainload of children, in charge of teachers, set out from the Whangarei station at 0.45 this morning. Soon after arrival, i desultory rain commenced, and by 12.30 p.m. it had developed into a heavy downpour. Special arrangements were hastily made with railway officials at Whangarei, and at 1.15 the party, dripping wet. Was transported back to town. The Salvation Army.
