MINISTERIAL VISIT TO NORTH BEFORE XMAS?

Reporting to the annual meeting of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce in connection with the progress of the Northland provincial status scheme,. Mr H. W. Crawford mentioned the invitation sent to the Prime Minister, the Minister of Lands, and the Minister of Internal Affairs, to visit Northland.

Although nothing final had been arranged, ho stated, it was possible that there might be a Ministerial visit before Christmas.

There was doubt in some people’s minds; as to the legality of the scheme, it adopted, continued Mr Crawford, but, while the provincial Governments were not disestablished, the provinces wore still legally stipulated areas. The statutes to this effect were still in force.

Mr Crawford paid a tribute to Mr A. C. Lamb, and also to Mr E. L. Whimp for his assistance in addressing local bodios.
