A. C. STEDMAN TO PLAY HERE NEXT WEEK

Tennis

A meeting of the North Auckland Lawn Tennis Association management committee was held last evening to finalise arrangements for the visit of A. C. Stedman, the New Zealand Davis Cup player, who will arrive by the afternoon express on December 17 to play exhibition matches at Whangarei. Fie will be accompanied by one of the leading Auckland players (probably Brown). Four singles matches and a five-set doubles will bo played on the afternoon of December 18, commencing at 1.30 p.m. Four of the best Whangarei players will oppose the visiting team.

Stedman is regarded as second only to Austin in British tennis and held the Dominion title before leaving New Zealand for international experience abroad. Ho is also a splendid doubles player.

Turf coui’ts, sot aside for special preparation by the Whangarei club, are looking at their best and conditions lor the exhibition should be very good. The visitors will be met at the station by the president, Mr K. M. Flayr, and other members of the North Auckland Association, and arrangements have been made for them to be escorted on visits to various scenic resorts near Whangarei. They leave Whangarei by service car on the Sunday morning after the match.
