Gilbey's Double Success As Pigeon Fancier
Recent events staged, by the Whungarci Homing Pigeon Club concluded the competition for season's averages, which resulted as follows: —
Yearlings:—E. Gilbey 1. D. Wilson 2 A. Balfour 3. A. Stanton 4.
Old Birds:—E. Gilbey 1, D. Wilson 2. A. Balfour 3. D. Millington 4. For the race from Palmerston North last week-end birds were released at 20-minute intervals and finished ns under: —
E. Gilbey's b.c.c. Gymkhana, lOhrs 15mins. flying time, 1; A. Balfour's r.c.c. Rod Marsh, lOhrs 4Cmins.. 2; D. Millington’s b.c.c. Blue Ribbon, lOhrs 20mins„ 3.
The winner took a cup presented by Mr W. Maurer. In the yearling derby flown from Johnsonville, no birds clocked home in race time.
This week-end the race will be from Christchurch, an air-lino distance of 587 miles.
The season for young birds is being a.waited with every confidence No less than 300 metal rings for young birds have been sold in Whangarei, and five now members will be taking part in file competitions, which will commence on the first Saturday in February.
