[.Special To £i Northern Advocate ”l WELLINGTON. This Day. In an interview last night, the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. W. Nash, said that the deficit in the Dairy Industry Account arising from the first year’s operations of the Primary Products Marketing Department in the export of butter and cheese, is expected to be less than £400,000. Mr Nash’s first estimate oC the deficit. published shortly after his return from England some months ago, was £050.000 However, there was a subsequent marked rise in prices for butter and cheese on the London market, and the annual report of the Marketing Department stated that it was estimated that the deficit would be reduced to approximately £540.749. Recent sales returns which have been received by the department from London state definitely that the deficit will be under £400,000. That figure includes an allocation of £174,26(1, the Minister stated, this sum covering administration expenses and an additional sum representing end of the season payments to be authorised by the Finance Bill, which was discussed in the Mouse last week. The actual deficit, for the season is not yet known. Mr Nash staled, but the final returns should bo received by the Marketing Department in the near future, and he would take an early opportunity of giving the exact figures.
