FLOWER SHOW BY KARA, MAUNU INSTITUTES
j The flower show organised by Maunu Institute, in conjunction with i Kara Institute, was a great success, in •spite of the adverse wont tier condij lions. | Maunu Hall was full of beautiful j blooms and floral arrangements. I The judging was undertaken by Mrs Finch and Mrs Halliday. In the afternoon. the show was formally opened .by the Mayoress. Mrs Jones. who i ; congratulated the Institutes concerned , on a worth-while effort, j Mrs W. Millar, chairman of the j show committee, introduced the May- ' oress and thanked the judges and all i who had helped in the arrangements, j making special reference to Mrs C. j Going, who had got out all the sched- ! ules for distribution.
Eileen Matthews presented bouo.uets to the Mayoress and to Mrs H. E. Johnson, the federation president, who added her congratulations. Mrs IE Armstrong, president of Maunu Institute, also thanked those members of the committee who had worked very hard in the preparations. Tea was served to the many visitors present.
In the evening, the flower show was again open, and this time, music was added to the attractions, songs being given by Mrs R. Stevenson, Mrs T. Drummond, and Mr H. G. Carruth, who each sang several times. Accompaniments for the two ladies were played by Mrs G. Woolley, and for Mr Carruth by Mrs M. Wilson. Miss Mollie O’Shea gave a tap dance, and Kara Institute entertained with an amusing item, “The Wedding Breakfast.”
The prizes were presented by Mrs H. E. Johnson, and supper was served to the large number of visitors. The prize-winners were as follows: Decorated table: Miss Clarke 1, Mrs W. Millar and Mrs Hunt 2.
