The steamer Chagres stood by four hours and took off 18 men. Then the Nollington Castle vanished in a rain squall. The Chagres searched for her. but without result.
The death has occurred in London of Miss Lilian Baylis theatrical manager.
A mesage from Kingston, Jamaica, says it is believed that more than 70 people were killed and hundreds oi thousands of pounds worth of damage caused by torrential rain throughout Jamaica. The chief railway line to Port Antonio was washed out, and it is exepected that traffic on it will be impossible for at least two months.
It is now officially announced that Herr Hitler relieved Dr. Schacht, postwar economic genius of Germany, of his post as Minister of Economics, in which General Goering will act until January 15, when Herr Funk, Undersecretary for Propaganda, will takeover. Dr. Schacht will remain as president of the Reichsbank, and will also continue to be Herr Hitler’s personal advisor as Reich minister without portfolio.
On a visit to Spain, Mr C. R. Attlee, Labour leader, will be accompanied by Mr L. Baker and Miss Ellen Wilkinson. In passing through Paris, it is stated that Mr Attlee will meet French Socialist leaders. He expects to leave London on Thursday.
