Unidentified Tyre Tread
j The imprints of the wearing treads i of automotive tyres in soft earth, etc., have provided valuable elites to the police in tracking down criminals in many important cases in various pares j of the world.
Usually it is not difficult for the police to identify the make of tyre by the pattern of the track of the tyre, but at times even this b a files the investigators. Such an instance evidently now confronts the TJ.S.A. Federal Bureau of Investigation in a major crime that has taken place in that country, for they can find no tyre manufacturer in America to identify the tyro tread pattern loft in. the snow by an automobile used by the suspected criminal. The ramifications of the investigations by the U.S.A. police is evidenced by the fact that the Director of the U.S.A. Department of Justice has sent a photo print of the tyre impression in the snow to the Dunlop Rubber Co., Melbourne, with a view to ascertaining if the tread pattern can be identified in this country. The Australian enquiry was fruitless.
