OFFICIAL WIND-UP OF SEASON

MINIATURE RIFLE MOOTIN

The, 1937 season of the Whangarei Miniature Rifle Club was officially wound-up on Friday evening, when the annual prize-giving and smoke concert was hold in the Royal hall. «As usual, the function was offa most enjoyable nature and was a fitting conclusion to the winter's activities. An excellent spread, arranged by the ladies, was accorded full justice before the presentation of prizes and toasting commenced. The club championship cup was handed over to the winner. F. Ching, by the patron, Mr. A. J. Murdoch. Mr. Ching scored 989 ooints in n possible 1.000 to win by two points from last year’s champion, A. E. Higgins. The other prizes were presented by the president, Mr. K. W. Davies, who presided, as follows; Trophies donated by Messrs. A. J. Murdoch to M. K. Stewart; A. E. Higgins to K. Waters; Eccles Bros (self-

handicap). M. K. Stewart; R. Fitzgibbons, Mrs. Dinsdale; W. Cuthbert. #Mi’S. Dinsdale; J. Norris. Mrs. Dinsdale; J. S. Woolley, A. J. Ching: F. Cowan, Dr. Buckley and W. R. Patterson. A. G. Robertson; R. T. Tudehope, M. K. Stewart: H. W. Crawford, M. Here; R. Lynch, F. Ching; E. Simpson, M. Hore; Fisher Shield and Mrs, Yarrow Cup. M. Hore: E. Reed, F. Ching; A. Clarke, F. Ching; Bargain Stores Cup, A. J. Ching. M. Hore and K. Waters. The winner and runnerup in Friday’s shoot, A. G. Robertson and Mrs. Dinsdale respectively were each presented with a jug donated by W. H. Tisdall Ltd., of Auckland, Each winner was toasted individually and also collectively, the speaker to the latter being the chairman, response being made by Mr. A. J. Ching. Other toasts honoured were; The Armourer, Mr. C. Baker, proposed by Mr. A. J. Murdoch; the secretary, Mr. Jack Norris, reply by Mr. M. K. Stewart. The visitors, Mr. Davies, replied by Mr. C. Bush, secretary of the Auckland Miniature Rifle Club; the donors of trophies, Mr. Stewart, replied to by Mr. F. C. Cowan; other competitors. Mr. A. J. Murdoch, replied to by Mr. L. Holmes; the ladies, Mr. Davies, reply by Mrs, Davies; range officers, Mr. F. Ching, reply by Messrs.

R. Jennings and R. Fitzgibbons; the * press, Mr. Davies, reply by “Advocate” representative; the president and Mrs. Davies. Mr. A. J. Murdoch, reply by Mr. Davies. During the evening, items were given by Messrs. K. Ward. A. D. Cook and A. J. Murdoch, songs, and H. Gribble and H, W. Davies, humorous monologues. Mr, Ward also led the company in community singing.
