300 KILLED IN AIR RAID ON BARCELONA

United Press Association. — By Flcetrlt Telegraph.—Copyright 1 (Received 10 a.m.) BARCELONA, October 2, Terrible scenes marked a raid on the [ working class district of Barcelona by I throe squadrons of rebel bombers, l Civilians who escaped bombs fell vicjtims to machine, guns. The total killed i is believed to be 300. Thirty-four buildings were destroyed. Twelve bombs fell on a school in in environs of the city. The children who were still alive fled from the collapsing building and were machine-gunned as they ran. Rescuers are still combing the ruins in search of bodies. Subsequently, insurgents in nine aeroplanes again bombed Barcelona. They killed 50 people and injured 107.
At Valencia the meeting of the Cortes was delayed for an hour owing to insurgent air raids. Eventually, the House passed a vote of confidence in the Premier, Senor Negrin. Ten planes dropped bombs on Valencia and several fires were started. Many people were killed and injured, and 100 houses were damaged.
Franco Decorates Italian

General Franco has created the King of Italy, Signor Mussolini, and Herr Hitler “Knights of the Grand Imperial Order of Red Arrows,” which he recently formed to commemorate the
first anniversary of his appointment as head of. the Spanish National Government.

Note To Italy
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, October 2.
British and French diplomats have handed to the Italian Foreign Minster, Count Ciano, a joint Note inviting Italy to participate in a discussion of the Spanish intervention question, especially the withdrawal of foreign volunteers.-
, The Note consists of 600 words and is friendly and courteous in tone. A message from Rome states that Count Ciano intimated that the reply to Britain and France may be delayed, owing to the fact that Signor Mussolini is on a holiday after his visit to Germany. .
However, he said he believed 11 Duce would agree to discussions, provided they were secret and through normal diplomatic chan-
nels. Germany was fully in agreement.
