JAP. CARGO DISPUTE SETTLED

F Special To “Northern Advocate”! WELLINGTON. This Day.

A settlement lias been reached in the dispute which arose last week: through the refusal of waterside workers to handle cargo for Japanese ships, as the result of a lengthy conference on Saturday between the Prime Minister, the lit. Hon. M. J. Savage, members of the Cabinet, and representatives of the Federations of Labour.

In an official statement subsequently, the Prime Minister said that the Federation of Labour and the Waterside Workex-s’ Union had agreed to advise their affiliated bodies to work the ship. The ordinary channels of trade would remain open. No further comment was made by Mr. Savage, but it is known that the Government took a serious view of the situation as it existed last week, and several members of the Cabinet were present with Mr. Savage when the discussions with the industrial representatives started.
