LABOUR TROUBLE ON AUCKLAND WATERFRONT
[Per Press Association. Copyright .] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Labour trouble has developer! oa the Auckland waterfront. It started through the dispute between the “seagulls” or non-union workers, and the regular union members in connection with the unloading of the Nabada. which arrived from Calcutta this morning.
No union labour was available for unloading the vessel and 200 “seagulls” were called. Later, work on the Hertford was completed and 50 union members came to the Nabada. According to an understanding, the 50 “seagulls” should have retired and allowed the 50 unionists to continue the work as they had been doing. Instead, however, the 200 “seagulls” walked off and the unloading was held up. The ‘“seagulls” placed pickets preventing the union labour operating. The latest news is that work is paralysed on the Akaroa and almost at a standstill on the Waiwera. There is a likelihood of the trouble spreading.
