Rebel Sub. Stops British Tanker
(Received 10 a.m.) ISTANBUL, September 8. An unknown submarine, flying the colours of the Spanish insurgents, is reported to have stopped the British oil tanker Pegasus, in the neighbourhood of Rhodes Island, in the Mediterranean, afterwards allowing it to proceed.
The British steamer Stanwold (1019 tons) was captured by a rebel torpedo boat on the Basque coast. The incident was witnessed by a: British warship, but the Stanwold was in territorial waters and not entitled to assistance.
