New County Offices Not Ready Yet
The Crown has agreed to the Whangarei Council remaining in possession until October 12 of its Bank Street property, recently acquired by the P. and T. Department for extensions to the local Post Office.
“1 am just afraid that we will not be in a position to give up the building by that date,” commented the county chairman, "The building in Rose Street does not appear to have progressed sufficiently to allow us to commence administration there so early.”
Probably another application for extension of time would be necessary, and instructions given to expedite the construction of the new building. Councillor A. Clarke inquired whether anything had been done to invite a high personage to be present at the opening ceremony.
Because no definite date as to when the building would be available could be fixed, Mr Mackay said that no arrangements of this nature could be made immediately.
The question of issuing an invitalion for the ceremony was referred to the chairman and staff.
