Available Supplies Running Out
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”l AUCKLAND, This Day. As a result of the sudden stoppage in the delivery of petrol and fuel oil in the city due to the striking of the drivers of tank waggons employed by four or five of the major oil companies in Auckland, there were several developments in the city. Throughout yesterday and last night motor vehicle owners besieged petrol stations in the city and suburbs. Some stations have already sold out, and. the supplies are diminishing rapidly, owing to the unprecedented demand. - Yesterday, taxis were refused petrol by most garages, and supplies on hand at one large company’s headquarters are expected to be exhausted today. Bakers Affected. Bakers who use oil in connection with baking have only enough for the week-end, and serious interference in the baking and delivery of bread is threatened. Bus services will continue to operate until their accumulated stocks are. exhausted. Freight services are in a similar position. Several Seine net boats were unable to leave port yesterday, and fishing is likely to be curtailed. It is also expected that deliveries of all commodities will end if petrol stations cease selling.
