No Agreement For Dominion wide Action
(Per Press Association. CovyrlgTiz.l WELLINGTON, This Day. Although no statement on the position in Wellington so far as oil company drivers is concerned, was forthcoming last night from the secretary of the Wellington Drivers’ Union, Mr A. Parlane, ■it was learned that there would be no stoppage of work .until the position had been, fully considered by the Wellington unionists. “Because of the five-day week, there is very little work done on Saturday, anyway,” said Mr Parr lane, “and the question as to what move, if any, will be made next week, remains to be seen.”
Surprise at the tone of the statement by the secretary of the Auckland Drivers’ Union, indicating expectation of a Dominion-wide stoppage, was expressed in both union and employers circles .in Wellington. Company representatives said that no suggestion that a sudden cessation of: work would be about in Wellington had been heard of so far.
Union spokesmen were disinclined to commit themselves, taut would not admit the existence of any agreement for concerted action on a Dominion scale.
