LONDON, June-24. A message from Cracow, 'Poland, states that violent demonstrations occurred today outside the palace of the Papal Nuncio, Thousands of people assembled and demanded the immediate dismissal of the Archbishop of Cracow, Mohsignor Sapieha, for-removing the heavy silver coffin, containing the remains of the late Marshal PRsudski from the Tomb of Kings in the cathedral in defiance of Poland’s President. Police reserves are ordered out as a strike is expected. It is reported, that the Pope has ordered an investigation, owing to the threatened rift between Church and State. The coffin was removed when the archbishop learned that King Carol of Rumania was to place
a wreath on Marshal Pilsudski’s tomb, when he arrived in Cracow on Saturday. It is Understood that the Archbishop’s decision was due, not only to the non-Catholic religion, but also to the private life of King Carol. A. Polish newspaper suggests the Archbishop’s arrest for his to the national pride. Ex-servicemen are , particularly enraged. Mass meetings are being held throughout Poland. Fifty thousand Pilsudski veterans demanded that the Cathedral should be declared State property, the archbishop punished and the concordat between the Vatican and Poland revised to reduce the church’s powers.
