Full List Of The Competitors
Rules, conditions and a full list of entries for the cow-milking stakes, one of the chief events of Show Week, have been announced by the committee, and are as follows: — Location: The contest will be held at the corner of Cameron and Walton Streets on Ye Angelo Fish Shop corner. Should the weather prove inclement, the Veribest Dick will provide accommodation in the once modern coffee palace, but the committee can accept no responsibility for accidents arising from the collapse of the building.
The Rules. 1. Nominations have been accepted only from bona tides farmers, sons of farmers and sons of guns. 2. All competitors must present their levy book at time of contest. 3. Competitors not allowed to milk more than four teats at a time. 4. Stockyard language strictly forbidden. 5. Should a competitor be found not milking his cow out, he will, under, Rule 99, Clause X of the Milking Act, be disqualified and barred from any future contests. 6. Milkers to be suitable attired — dungarees or dress suit optional. 7. Competitors may smoke but must provide their own tobacco and matches. Prize Awards. Prizes will be awarded as follows: — First prize (trophy) to the competitor milking his cow in fastest time. First prize (trophy) to<the competitor whose cow gives the best milk. The milk to be tested and tasted by the public. The executive regrets that, owing to the costly nature of the trophies, they are reluctantly compelled to limit the prizes to one in each section.
Trophies will be presented by the Hon. P. Fraser immediately at conclusion of contest. The Card. 1. “High Finance” —a guaranteed cow, tracing back to the Savage Strain —milker, J. G. Barclay, M.P. 2. “Miss Whangarei”—a high rate cow—milker, W. Jones, Mayor of Whangarei. 3. “Maid of the West” —The Gordon loop strain, a line bred cow—milker, F. Jones, Mayor of Dargaville. 4. “Kitty of Kioreroa” —a highly priced cow bred by Ken Stevens — milker, J. A. Finlayson, chairman, Whangarei Harbour Board. 5. “Miss Waitemata”—a fin tooth cow, a heavy producer—milker, H. W. James, president, A. and P. Society. 6. “Titbits”—a consistent cow, but showing a bit of age. This cow dislikes mud and prefers to walk on concrete —milker, E. G. W. Tibbits, chairman, Whangarei Fire Board. 7. “Riverside Rose” —a cow of doubtful breeding. This cow thrives on salt air and scenery and is believed by some to be a descendant of the old > Fraser breed —milker, R. Holland, president, Riverside Association.
