(Received 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, June 23. The by-election for the Cheltenham seat, necessitated by the resignation of Sir Walter Preston, resulted as follows: — Mr D. L. Lipson (Ind. Con.) .. 10,533 Lieut.-Col. R. Tristram Harper (Con.) 10,194 Mr C. C. Poole (Lab.) 5,570 Majority 339 Sir W. Preston’s majority at last election was 10,790 in a straight issue against Labour, whose candidate registered 7,784 votes. At Kernel Hempstead. The Kernel Hempstead by-election, due to Sir J. C. C. Davidson’s elevation to the peerage, resulted; — Lady Davidson (Con.) 14,992 Mrs Corbett Ashby (Lib.) .... 7,347 Mr C. James (Lab.) 3,561 ' Majority 7,645 The seat was not contested at the last election.
