There was little animation on the ’Change this morning, and at the first call only a small list of sales were recorded.
Australian banks were very quiet. New Zealands were steady, with fresh business at £2 3/9 and more wanted. Buyers for D. Mortgage dropped back to £1 5/6.
Insurances were scarcely as firm as of late, and buyers lowered their limits for New Zealands to £3 5/ and for South British to £4 15/. Australian securities showed improvement. Broken Hill Pty. sold fid higher at £3 19/, Mt. Lyells were 1/3 up at £2 1/6, and Mt. Morgans improved lOd, with business at 12/10 and more wanted. Buyers for Electro Zincs moved up to £2 13/ for the ordinaries, and to £2 14/6 for the prefs. Buyers for Dunlops raised offers to £1 2/3, but Gouldsboroughs were easier with sellers at 38/ and no buyers. New Zealand Breweries were firmer, with buyers at £2 7/3, and no sellers, but the Rights were lower, with unsupported sellers at 22/6. Government stocks were in keen demand, and the 43-46 s sold higher at £lO4 and £lO4 2/6.
Radio shares were on offer at 25/6, with buyers at 22/6. The following sales were recorded at noon.—N.Z. Newspapers, £1 15/6: Woolworths (N.Z.), £'B; Mt. Lyells, £2 1/6; Mt. Morgan, 12/1. Unlisted. — Hellabys, pref., 7 per cent., £1 3/6.
