Beer Or Bowls?
Special to ‘‘Northern Advocate. PAPAROA, This Day. Beer or bowls? This was the question raised by Mr E. A. Fenwick at a meeting of the Paparoa Bowling Club. in bringing the matter before the meeting, Mr Fenwick alleged that, on visiting day, there was too much liquor on tap. “It is geti ting absolutely over the odds,” | said Mr Fenwick, “and we have 1 now come to the question of either dirinking beer or playing ! bowls/' , , I ; ,/ • .... * 1 At one match last year, he | alleged, V&ien the club was visit- ! ing a neighbouring club,- two 1 players beicame incapacitated at > any rate as far as bowls were j concerned. In his opinion, the ! club should cut out all the liquor J on their own green on visitors’ | days. j The proposal met with a storm ! of protest and various speakers ; stressed the fact that their own | club members were very' tem- | perate, and that the Paparoa Club j could not oe blamed for the sins j of members of other clubs, j As a general rule, the liquor 5 provided was not abused, j After a short but bright dis- ! cussion the question lapsed.
