Death Of Child Due To Heart Failure
An inquest was held yesterday by the coroner, Mr G. H. Morrish, into the death of a child,; aged six months, pi, Helena Bay. The child was erick Basil James McGee,' son of Roslyn Selena Violet McGee. The mother gave evidence that the child had been in the hospital for the first two months of its life, but, for the past two months, had been in good health. The hospital sister had said that care would be necessary, as the child had a weak heart and might be liable .to convulsions.
On Monday the child was teething and was attended to. At 1 a.m. yesterday the baby was restless, owing to teething, and steps were taken to ease it. It was found that the child’s hands and feet were cold and it was placed in tw<? mustard baths. In the'Second the child collapsed and'died; - Mrs Eni Ilita lieihana gave corroborative evidence. J ;
Dr D. Armstrong, of Hikurangi, said that the child suffered from repeated convulsions at the age of five weeks. From the history supplied by the mother, information from the hospital, and his own observations, death was due, in his opinion, to acute heart failure resulting from convulsions, these being excited by teething, naturally occurring in a child of that age. The verdict was in accordance with the medical evidence. , T - - x ■
