State House Rentals Cause Investors To Sigh With Relief

L Special to “Northern Advocate ”] WELLINGTON, This Day. That a feeling of relief had come over private investors in house properties with the statement by the Government of the rental to be charged for the new ‘ State houses was a statement made yesterday by Mr. Arthur Seed, secretary of the Dominion Federated Sawmillers’ Association, Since the inception of the scheme, Mr. Seed said, there had been a marked decline in the timber demand on the part of private builders. This reflected the uncertainty and hesitation caused in the investor’s minds. Their policy was to hold off to see the effects of the Government’s building plans on property values. - It was the general impression that State houses were to be rented at some ridiculously low and uneconomic level, but, since the announcement of the rentals, the average investor in house property appeared to have sighed with relief, and there were now signs that private building was beginning to revive.
