Sands - Richards

A pretty wedding was held at the Church' of the Holy Cross, Portland, on June 2, when Miss Olga Alma Richards, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Richards, of Portland, was married to Mr Harold Sutcliffe Sands, only son of Mr and Mrs T. Sands, of Waipu. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a streamlined gown of satin beaute which carried a long train. The sleeves and yoke were of lace and the neck-line was finished with a small peter pan collar of satin. The dainty veil flowed from a head-dress which was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a sheaf of Tudor roses.

The bride was attended by Miss Lorraine Dobson and Miss Grace Peterwood, who were gowned alike in cellophane striped crinklette of the palest shade of pink. With the long fitting frocks, small boleros were worn, which were finished off at the I waistline and neck with two small

frills. Their head-dress, which was of silver leaves, formed a halo. Silvei shoes were worn. The maids carried pale pink sheafs. The best man was Mr Robert Richards, and the groomsman, Mr George Whittle. The Rev. McDonald, of )Vhangarei, performed the ceremony, and Mrs A. Neal officiated at the organ. The ushers were Mr W. Purchase and ;Mr R. Potter. . The bride’s mother, Mrs R. Richards, wore a frock of navy self-striped satin relieved with lace, and a smart navy hat. - She carried an autumn-toned bouquet. The bridegroom’s mother, Mrs T. Sands, wore a frock of russet crepe and a hat to tone. Her bouquet matched the colouring of her frock. Following the- church ceremony, a reception was held in the Portland Hall where the many guests were received by Mrs R. Richards. In the evening a dance was held in the Portland Hall, the bridal pair leaving on their honeymoon immediately after the first dance.
