Simultaneous Fires In Hawera Hotels
ISpedal to ‘‘Northern Advocate f’] NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day, Two outbreaks of fire, winch occurred almost simultaneously in two Hawera hotels yesterday, are supposed to have been the Work of ah incendiarist. The police and fire brigade authorities are making investigation,. The outbreaks occurred in. bedrooms in the Commercial and Egmont Hotels, situated on opposite comers, and occurred almost at once. Until it was learned that two similar fires had occurred, no significance was attached to the outbreaks by either of the licensees. D>amage To Wallpaper. Bedclothes in a room in the Egmont Hotel, which had been occupied for four years by a permanent boprder, were found to be oh fire. The damage was .confined to the wallpaper and the wall-boards. ; /
The room-in which the fire occurred in the Commercial Hotel had not been occupied for a week. The door was unlocked, and the room was in readiness to receive guests expected in the evening. Bed-coverings were alight when the fire was discovered.
