TRAGIC SEQUEL TO FOOTBALL MATCH
Lorry Crashes Through Bridge at Maungaturoto
A Rugby match between the railway employees at Maungaturoto and Wellsforcl, played at Wellsford yesterday, had a tragic sequel in the death of a member of the Maungaturoto team, Mr Arthur H. Marson.
Mr Marson, who was aged 25, was returning home, after the game, in a truck driven by Mr Jack Allen, of Maungaturoto, when the vehicle failed to take the bridge at the bottom of an awkward hill just below Mr Donald Finlayson’s property on the main highway, and crashed through the railings into the creek below. Mr Marson was killed, outright and Mr Allen suffered.a'.severe leg injury, which necessitated the insertion of 16 stitches. The latter was" attended by Dr. McKay, and admitted to the Paparoa Hospital. Mr Marson has been in the employ of the Railway Department tor the past eight or nine years. His home is in Te Papapa, Auckland, but he has been stationed at Maungaturoto for six months.
