Okaihau Defeat Kaikohe

There was fine weather for the Ba'y of Islands Rugby Union’s matches at Kaikohe.
In a keen match, Okaihau seniors defeated Kaikohe by 8 points to 5. In the first ten minutes Barney Tanioua went over for Kaikohe from a scrum on Okaihau’s line. Rogers’ kick was successful.
Fred Te Namu, Kaikohe, was ordered off fof rough play. In the first spell, Kaikohe made the pace, the forwards working well. From a forward rush Gries secured the ball for Okaihau and scored. Rado’s kick missed.
Okaihau brightened up in the second spell, and kept Kaikohe on edge. Okaihau found difficulty in penetrating, as the Kaikohe backs had a good defence. Towards the end of the game, Okaihau kept play on Kaikohe’s line, and, from a forward rush, Stan Dixon, the Okaihau captain, collected the ball and scored. Rado’s kick was successful. Rado’s handling was very safe all through the game. The teams were:—

Juniors: Ohaeawai 3, Kerikeri 3; Kaikohe 6, Okaihau 3; Te Iringa 7, Green and Gold 5, The results in the eastern zone were:—Seniors: Otiria 40, Oromahoe 10; Kawakawa 6, Moerewa 5. Juniors: Mcerewa and Kawakawa 3 all. Otiria won by default from Opua.
