Coronation Day Holiday In Whangarei?
“Although there is still uncertainty in some quarters as to the observance of a holiday on Coronation Day, it appears certain that Whangarei shops will be closed. A leading businessman summed up the position thus when approached this morning: “We have had appeals to close from the Prime Minister, the Mayor and the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce, and the great majority of tradespeople are themselves desirous of participating in the Coronation services. So far I have, not heard of any who intend to remain open on May 12;”
