Week Opens Quietly On Stock Exchange

Business ■ opened quietly on the Stock Exchange this morning, and at the first call only three sales were recorded.' Bidding was steady, blit with no zest on the part of buyers. In the banking New Zealands were easier with a market between £2 3/6 and £2 4/, and buyers for New Zealand Insurances dropped back to £3 1/3. Gas shares were on offer at £1 0/6, with buyers 3d below. Kaiapoi Woollens were easier and a parcel of the preferential were placed at 17/, a drop of Bd. 1 ; j. -. . Quotations for Australian issues were steady at about late rates. Buyers for Electro Zinc preferentials moved up to £2 19/3 and Mt. Lyells *were easier with quotations from £2 7/9 to £2 8/9. Government stocks were practically unchanged.
The following sales were recorded at noon;—Auckland Gas, con., 15/; Dental and Medical, 12/6; Roller Mills, ex div,, 19/6. Unlisted; J. R. McKenzies, £3’7/6.
