New Zealand eliminated China in the Davis Cup contest at Brighton today, having won the doubled yesterday and one of the singles on the previous day. In the final singles matches, C. E. Malfroy. defeated Choy, 6 —l, 6—3, 6—l, and Khosinkie defeated A, C. Stedman, 6—4, 6—4, I—6, 6—3. Khosinkie was too steady for Stedman, who, in the first set], repeatedly double-faulted and netted. Stedman led 2—o In the second set, but, the Chinese player; in spite of tht New Zealander’s strenuous efforts, obtained an unshakeable lead, Stedman outv classed Khosinkie in the third set with beautiful passing shots, but tired in the fourth. Nevertheless, he won three games in a row to make the score 3—2, after which the Chinese, who employed | stop volleys, took the set. The deciding match was a mere procession. In the doubles today Crawford and Quist defeated Unda and Hermandez, 6—2, 6—3, 6—3, after a straight midcourse game. Crawford’s overhead smashes outclassed the Mexicans. The manager, Mr Sproule, is very satisfied and hopes the winning streak Will continue. He says the team is in quite satisfactory form and will travel by train for New York tomorrow. The players will rest for a few days and will practice for about 18 days. McGrath’s hand is much better, and he uses only a slight tape bandage. In the first round match at Amsterdam in the Davis Cup contest, South Africa eliminated Holland, Farquharson and Kirby defeating van Swol and Hughan, 6—4, 6—3, 6—2. After Kirby had scored one win for South Africa, his team-mate; Farquharson, defeated Hughan (Holland), 6 —l, 6—l, 6—l. At Montreux, Switzerland, Iceland and Switzerland were all square in the .first two singles matches, but in the doubles Lyttelton Rogers and McVeagh (Ireland) defeated Maneff and Fischer, 6 —o, 6 —2, 5 —7, 5 —7, 6 —4. British Hard Court Championships (Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, May 1A In the final today of the doubles ' match in the British hard court championships at Wimbledon, Hare and Wild defeated Hughes and Tuckey, 6—2, 6—4, 7—9, 6—4. The result reversed last year’s Wimbledon final,

and suggests the winners’ possibility as a Davis Cup pair. In the finals of the singles matches, Austin defeated Lee, 6—2, 6 —2, 6—o, and Senorit Lizana defeated Miss Peggy Scriven, 7 —5, 6—3.
