INFANTILE PARALYSIS

Between December 1 and March 29 there were 359 cases of infantile paralysis in New Zealand, according to figures supplied by the head office of the Department of Health. Deaths totalled 19. ■ r'

Palmerston North. —A young girl from Foxton, admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital on Wednesday night, brings the total paralysis cases in the Manawatu district to seven.

Paeroa. —A further case has occurred at. Netherton, the victim being a child under four years of age. The case is not a serious one, although the symptoms are quite positive.

Gore.—The Gore primary school has been closed until April 19 owing to a pupil, a girl aged 12, having been admitted to hospital with infantile paralysis. A brother of nine was also admitted to hospital as a suspect. These are the first cases in the district for a considerable time.
