One newspaper printed a story that many were hoping to take back “nicn English wives,” and published photographs of Major Ruddock and Colonel Donald, with the result that they received dozens of letters from girls seeking romance. Major Ruddock told the Australian Associated Press that he was frightened to go to the mail-box now. At least 25 letters a day arrived from blendes, brunettes and others. Some proposed marriage or wrote romantically about the wide open spaces. One asked him to bring half-a-dozen “Aussies” -j; 0 R er -town, to meet girl friends of hers.
