INTER-HOUSE CONTESTS.
In the A grade of the Inter-house competition the winners of the sections were the Portland Cement Co. and the Teachers teams: The former had a hard tussle with the Dairy Reps, in the final game of the section play, but proved to be too strong. In the final game the Portland Cement Co. also proved too strong for the Teachers' team and thus won the A grade competition. The E grade now rests between the Combined Drapery team and the Public Works Department. This final has not yet been played but arrangements are being made for the match as soon as possible. The ladies' competition proved particularly interesting. In the first section the Public Trust Building team ran out level with the Railway team, each with only one loss. Although
earlier in the section play the Public Trust building team had beaten the Railway combination 6 sets to nil, in the play-off the latter proved too strong and thus qualified to meet Franklin’s Footwear, the winners of the second section, in the final. The final game was well contested and resulted' in a win for the Railway team by 5 sets to 1 and 40 games to 26. The winners deserve especially to be congratulated on their success. Their performances through the section show a progressively higher standard of play and lead an outsider to think that considerable practice has contributed to their success. It may safely be said that there are in the competition individual players of a higher standard than the Railway players. The winners, however, showed combination possessed by no other team to the same extent and their steady play gave them success which was well deserved.
