The Bank of England, extending its policy of appointing to the directorate men of experience in other fields than banking, has selected Mr John Martin, prominent in Rand gold mining, and Mr E. Bunbury, a recent director of the Anglo-Oriental Mining Co. Mr Martin spends much lime in South Africa. It is a departure to appoint a director not permanently resident in the United Kingdom,
