Butter Market Is More Optimistic
Dairy Produce
(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON, March 27
The butter market is definitely, more optimistic. There has been abnormal holiday activity. Australian selling up to 101/- yer cwt, and finest New Zealand as high as 102/-. The statistical position is much sounder. Current arrivals are insufficient to meet the demand of the trade, which was stimulated by extraordinarily keen competition among larger retail and multiple stores, which are selling butter as low as. lOd per lb., which is almost the price of. margarine. Similar conditions obtained in cheese, which sold so cheaply that reserve stocks are heavil/ depleted. Arrivals are barely sufficient for current requirements. Hokianga Output Up The output of the Hokianga Dairy Company’s factory for the season 193637, up to the end of February shoves an increase over the 1935-36 season up to the same period of 146 tons. The increase of the February output over that of last season was 7 tons. The following are the particulars:— Output for season 1935-36 up to end of February, 1101 tons; for 1936-37, 1248 tons. ■ Output for February, 1936, (29 days) 199 tons; for 1937 (28 days), 206 tons.
