Copyright,'} | AUCKLAND, This Day. | A settlement was reached in the dispute between the boilermakers at the Otahuhu railway workshops and j the Railway Department concerning i the staffing of jobs. The departmental J instructions that certain work was to | be done by workers classified as lab - ourers was cancelled, ans boilermakeis were restored to their jobs before work was stopped for the Easter holidays. Addressing a lunch hour meeting of over 1000 railway men at the Otahuhu j Workshops this week, Mr J. Elliott, a candidate for the office of president cf the Railwaymen’s Union, said the whole of the wages schedule was being revised by the Railwaymen’s Council. i These are to be presented to the Gov- ) eminent, with the suggestion that they I be adopted as revised by the department. The Government would be approached in May. Further suggestions would be made regarding the adjustment of the anomalies consequent upon the introduction of the 40-hour week. These would be discussed with the Minister, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan. Mr Elliott said that it was imperative that the wholehearted co-operation of railwaymen be secured, to assist the Minister in finding a solution for the intricate problems.
