Justices May Speak Against Judiciary Plan
(Received 1 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 18
As a result of the speech made by Mr. Justice Mcßeynolds at a fraternity banquet. opponents of President Roosevelt’s Judiciary reform proposals have renewed their efforts to persuade at least three Justices to state their views' to the Judiciary Committee of the Senate. The chairman of the committee. Mr. H. F. Ashurst (Democrat—Arizona), said the committee would not hear the Justices unless they would submit a request in writing. Mr. Justice Mcßeynolds said he was not aware that reporters were present
at the banquet, and probably he would not have made his remarks if he had been aware that they would be quoted.
None of the members of the House of Representatives or Senate has expressed any objection to Mr. Justice Mcßeynolds' action, but he seems to regret that his speech has been interpreted as an abandonment of the Supreme Court traditional aloofness from political questions.
