INSUFFICIENT TAXIS
AUCKLAND EXPERIENCE OVERCHARGING ALLEGED. [Per Press Association. —Copyright.] AUCKLAND, This Day. Despite the fact that one Auckland taxi company had 200 cars on the run for the holiday traffic, and another company had 80, Auckland taxis at the peak times were unable to cope with the volume of business offering, and its sequel has been complaints to the city council of speeding and overcharging, which are now being investigated. It is stated that the majority of Auckland taxi-drivers conducted the holiday business in accordance with the by-laws, but a number of allegations of overcharging at rush periods are leading the taxi companies to aver that their work was carried out strictly in accord with the by-laws.
