CHILDREN ENTERTAINED AT LODGE XMAS TREES
Last evening at the Royal Hall, the Star of Whangarei Lodge, No. 89, 1.0.0. F., in conjunction with the Aloha Rebekah Lodge, 1.0.0. F., entertained the children of members at a Christmas tree.
Over 100 children made the rafters ring with their laughter. As a prelude to the entrance, of Santa Claus, Mrs H, J. Halley entertained with a seasonable item.
The big event was the distribution of toys and balloons by Father Christmas from his wonder bag and the large tree, gaily decorated with coloured lights and balloons. Large quantities of ice cream, soft drinks and bags of lollies went into ready liquidation, and. while the adults were served with a • more savoury supper, the children entered wholeheartodly into community singing. The M.U.1.0.0.F. Christmas tree on Wednesday evening at the Friendly Society’s Hall was the centre of attraction for over 50 children. The early part of the evening was given over to merry games. Amid hushed expectancy, Father Xmas entered and strode to the tree, which stood in the middle of the floor, glittering with toys and festooned with coloured lights and balloons. Very systematic in his work, Santa gave to each child a toy. a paper hat. a balloon and a bag of lollies. Old and young consumed large quantities of frozen delicacies. Supper, including one or more glasses of milk for each child, followed, and then there were more games under the supervision of Bro. E L. Darley. assisted by Bro. R. Williamson.
