FAREWELL TO MR V. MASON
On Thursday evening a gathering was held in the Parish Hall to farewell Mr V. Mason and family, who are leaving the district tomorrow. The evehing was spent in dancing, the floor being well patronised. Mr H. Pearson acted as M.C. and Mr O. Price and Mrs H. Pearson supplied the music.
Several items were given during the evening. Those taking part were: The Pickles sisters, tap dancing; Mr Rockcliffe, solo; Mr Stockley (senior), humorous recitation.
In presenting Mr Mason with a pipe, Mr Heaslip, the Anglican minister, referred to the good work done by both Mr and Mrs Mason, in the church and in everything connected in any way with the church. 'Mr Heaslip said that during Mr Mason’s 12 years in Hikuragni he had done a great deal which would not be easily forgotten, and he wished him every prosperity in his new position with the Morrinsville Dairy Co. Mrs Mason was presented with a prayer-book and leather handbag, and Master Colin with a set of hair brushes. ; Supper concluded the evening.
Mr Mason leaves tomorrow for a week’s tour of the North before taking up his new position.
SWIMMING CLUB. On Monday evening the Hikurangi Swimming Club held a meeting at the school baths. It was decided that the membership fee for the season be: Men, 5/; ladies, 2/6. All school children, including High School pupils, are to be admitted free of charge. Volunteers were called for a working bee to .be held on Thursday evening for the purpose of cleaning the grounds.
BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION. On Tuesday evening the numerous friends of Mrs Sommerville gathered at her residence,' in Waro, on the occasion of her birthday. A jolly evening was spent in cards and games. Four tables of whist were played and the winners were: Miss M. Newby and Mr Sommerville. The consolation prizes went to Mrs Newby and Mr J. Muir. Supper was served by the lldies. PERSONAL. Mr Clayton, late of the dairy factory staff, has left the district to take up a position in South Auckland. Messrs J. Rowe, J. Newby and F. Rix have returned from Glen Massey and are spending the Christmas holidays in Hikurangi.
