There was a quiet note on the Stock Exchange this morning and only a few sales were finalised. A feature was the hardening of Auckland Gas shares, which sold 9d later market between 22/3 and 23/6. Bank of New Zealands were weak, and, following last night’s sale at £2 1/, there were sellers, at £2 1/6 and no buyers. Buyers for Commercials dropped their offers to 18/9, „ sellers still at 19/3. Buyers for Woolworths (New Zealand) raised their offers to £5 19/, sellers unchanged at £6 7/6. The Sydney issue was quiet, with a market between £7 10/ and £7 14/. Traders’ Finance were quoted ex dividend, with sellers of the contributing at 4/7 and of the preferences at 21/* with no buyers. Amongst Commonwealth industrials, Henry Jones were conspicuous with buyers at £2 6/6, and holders asking £2 8/. Mt. Lyalls were firm with quotations from 36/9 to 37/3. Very little was doing at noon and few alterations were made to the morning quotations. Buyers came in for Bank of Australasias at £l2 2/6, and for Unions at £lO 5/. South British were closer to ■ business between £4 11/3 and £4 12/. Kauri Timbers were firm," selling 4d higher at 24/10, with a buyer at £1 4/6, and no sellers. Offers for Staples Breweries moved up to 37/6. Woolworths (New Zealand) had a stronger market from £6 to £6 7/6. Another Id rise was recorded in Mt. Morgans, with sales at 15/8.
