TJTIS Royal Highness, Prince Albert Frederick Arthur George of Windsor, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, Baron Killarney, Knight of the Garter, Privy Councillor, Knight of the Thistle, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, Knight Grand Gross of the Royal Victorian Order, Honorary Doctor of Civil Law, Fellow of the Rdyal Society, with high ranks in the Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force, will, now become King of Britain and the Dominions Overseas, and Emperor of India.
Here are a few tabulated facts about the first King Albert. Born: York Cottage, Sandringham, December 14, 1895. Educated: Royal Naval College, Osborne and Trinity College, Cambridge. Served on the H.M.S. Collingwood through the Battle. of Jutland, After the Armistice worked with the Air Ministry, and passed his flying tests for pilot’s license. Created Duke of York on June 5, 1920.
Married: On April 26, 1923, Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, fourth daughter of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne. It is not too much to say that his popularity as King will be greatly enhanced by the fact that the whole of the British Commonwealth holds his wife in deep affection. Children: Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret Rose. Represented his father at the formal j entry into Brussels, 1918. of the late King of the Belgians; at the wedding of King Alexander of Serbia to Princess Marie, of Rumania and later at the christening of their infant son, and at the Coronation at Bucharest in i October. 1922. | In .1924 the Duke and Duchess visit!ed Africa, and in-1927 they toured New Zealand and were present at the opening of the Federal Government .when it was moved to Canberra, The new King has become immensely poular through the quietly effective manner in which he has carried out his numerous public duties. The health of the child, the well-being j of the boy and the welfare of the man jhave been for many years the focal .points of his interest and enthusiasm. I He has won the title of “The Industrial Prince.” As president of the Industrial Welfare Society, without show or formality, he made contact with men of all classes connected with productive enterprises. As a practical experiment in fraternity the King introduced and supported a camping scheme, bringing together boys from widely different spheres of life.
