A N announcement that it was intended to present Miss Batten with a special trophy in recognition of her flights was made yesterday when she was entertained in Wellington by the New Zealand Aero Club. The trophy will be a clock, on which will be mounted a silver globe marked with the route of her' 1 flight from England to New Zealand, and surmounted by a silver replica of her Percival Gull monoplane.—P. w '-'‘ < ••• * JPOUR Bristol fighter aeroplanes of the Royal Air Force, which have been in service at Wigram since about 1927, but are now obsolete, are to be used for ground training. One is being made available to the Palmerston North Technical College,- and another has been handed to the Wellington Aero Club, which will lend .to the Wellington School of Aeronautics. Two others will be retained by the Air Force for instructing junior members of the ground staff— P.A.

A COMPLETE human skeleton was unearthed near Gore Bay yesterday by workmen engaged in widening a road, says a Christchurch message. No clothing or other articles were found with the skeleton, which is presumed to be that of a Maori. The skeleton was found three.feet below the surface, 30 feet about sea level in the sandhills. The police have been notified and will investigate.— (P.A.)

A CCORDING to a wireless messages received from the Union Company’s Matua, one of the small islands in the Tongan group, two miles south of Tonga, was the scene last Sunday of an eruption. This locality is the scene of frequent submarine eruptions. In 1923 Captain Davey and officers of the Tofua saw a severe eruption and in 1912 a series of submarine disturbances were seen by the late Captain Crawford aboard the Tofua. —(P.A.)

J> OBERT Norman Porter, aged 18, fell down a lift well in York Chambers, Auckland, yesterday, and suffered concussion and abrasions to the body. It is unknown how the accident happened. It is understood that he fell 15ft. Porter was taken to hospital where his condition is fairly satisfactory.—Special.

;|r jT'HE Governor-General, Viscount Galway and party paid a brief unofficial visit to Invercargill yesterday afternoon. After visiting the public hospital and the new hospital at Kew, they left for Bluff where they boarded the Government steamer Matai which sailed for the Sounds.
