SATURDAY AFTERNOON WORK BAN SUSPENDED [Per Press Association. Copyright .] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Suspension of the hours clause in the shearers’ agreement last night averted a crisis threatening the wool industry, which at no stage appeared to involve New Zealand in a loss of £1,000,000.

The clause provides that work in sheds must cease at noon on Saturdays. Because of the abnormally broken weather experienced, particularly in the North Island, the operation of the clause had become impracticable Shearing had been seriously checked, and there was a grave danger of deterioration in wool. The clause was suspended by the authority of the Minister of Labour, the . Hon. H. T. Armstrong, and, with the consent of the parties to the agreement, the New Zealand Sheepcwners’ Federation and the New Zealand Workers’ Union.
