PRESBYTERIAN BIBLE CLASS UNION
NORTHLAND LABOUR DAY RALLY The best attended and most widely representative gathering of Piesbyterian Bible Class members In Northland was held at Waipu on Labour Day. Well over 100 young people came from Dargaville, Waimatanui, Titoki. Hikurangi, Whangarei, Ruawai, Maungaturoto, Kaiwaka and other places. Rev. W. R. Milne, of St. Stephen’s, Ponsonby, was the chief speaker, and associated with him was a carload of Auckland delegates. The rally commenced with community singing :n the church, conducted by Mr H. Nightingale. After a short devotional period, the Rev. J. W. McFarlane welcomed the delegates on behalf of the Waipu congregation, stating that, traditionally, Waipu was interested in everything concerned with the welfare of the Presbyterian Church, and a youth movement, which had the virility of the Bible Classes, was a force for good among those who were to enjoy the heritage that had been passed down to them. The Rev. W. R. Milne gave a forceful address, pointing out the necessity of being grafted in, rather than a mere appendix in spiritual things. Only those who were thus part of the tree would be fitted to stand the final test. Lunch was served in the hall, Waipu people acting as hosts and hostesses. The afternoon was spent at
sports, when the Northland Bible Class Banner was won by Dargaville by a substantial majority. The following are details of the banner events: — Ladies, 100yds, 14-18: Kaiwak# 1, Hikurangi 2, Waipu 3. Over 18: Dargaville 1, Dargaville' 2, Kaiwaka 3. METHODISTS AT KAIKOHE, KAITAIA AND MITITAI About 50 attended the Methodist rally held at Kaikohe yesterday, including five executive representatives from Whangarei. The president of the Methodist Conference, the Rev. E. P. Blamires, gave an impressive address on the subject “Fellowship or Jesus.” There were four or five study circles and the theme was “Jesus, Lord.” At the end of the study, the circles brought in their various findings and there was a general discussion on the subject. Whangarei representatives also attended a rally held at Kaitaia, where there were about 100 present, the speaker being the Rev. R. Patchett, of Russell. Another rally was held at Mititai, several representatives from the Whangarei district attending.
